That said, you don't have to be constantly on a detox, either. Your diet, just like yoga teachers will tell you, is all about balance. There needs to be a balance between your body and mind. If your body appreciates the food you're giving it, your mind has to as well. If you're not enjoying the food that you're eating, it's going to be harder to remain calm and feel peaceful. The last thing you want to do after a huge meal is stretch! It doesn't matter whether you're a beginner or an expert at yoga, you're not going to benefit from yoga therapy or power yoga if your diet isn't balanced and conducive to improving your mental, physical, and spiritual wellness.  A balanced diet will help you get the most out the benefits of yoga.  For more advice on what to eat, ask your yoga instructor about some of their favourite recipes.Find yoga Edinburgh lessons.

10 Study Habits to Avoid

10 Study Habits to Avoid As you continue to move up in your educational career, its essential that your study skills grow along with the complexity of your studiesand youll learn that there are certain study habits you should avoid. If youre struggling in subjects that used to be second nature, or feel like youre underperforming, take a critical look at your study habits. Some poor study habits to avoid include pulling all-nighters and using distracting study spaces, but below we delve into a more comprehensive list. The following are 10 study habits to avoid: 1. All-night cramming sessions If theres one habit to eliminate immediately from your study repertoire, its cramming. An hour a night for a week leading up to a test will likely be much more effective than staying up all night the evening prior to your test. A full nights sleep can serve you incredibly well on test day, far better than anything you may have managed to review while staying up until the crack of dawn instead. [RELATED: How to Make a Smart Study Routine] 2. Multitasking Certain studies have shown that multitasking does not have good effects on productivity. What youre really doing is task-switching, which often results in wasted time and poor efficiency. Focus on completing one task at a time in order of importance, and youll spend less overall time studying and do so more effectively. 3. Studying with music or the TV on In the same vein as above, distractions like TV or music with vocals can impede concentration. If you feel you must study with some sort of background noise (which can work for some people), try switching to classical music, or move your study spot to a caf or library. However, if you find you are one of the many who needs silence, ask family members or roommates to help accommodate you with designated quiet hours around your living space. 4. Studying with friends Somegroup study sessions can be beneficial, but only if youre on task and not primarily socializing. Take an honest look at whether the members of your study group are helpful or just distracting, and reprioritize accordingly. 5. Poor organization Not being able to find your notes, study materials, or list of assignments can both discourage you and just make studying plain difficult. Make sure you have a separate notebook for each class, and staple any syllabi, assignment instructions, or other loose papers inside. Make use of an online calendar or planner to note homework due dates and test dates. 6. Procrastination Its true that some people work better under pressure with deadlines, but often, procrastinators dont leave enough time to complete the project, leading to less than ideal work. Make an effort to read through the assignment as soon as its received and properly estimate the time and materials needed. To really tackle procrastination, break the assignment down into small chunks and assign artificial deadlines for each chunk to ensure you complete the final product on time. [RELATED: Top 5 High School Study Tips] 7. Poor in-class engagement Sometimes, the root of poor performance is failing to absorb the material in the first place. Time spent learning during a class you have to attend anyway is free time you save later. Learn to take good notes by restating the lecture and reading materials in your own words as you write, and review notes nightly. Make sure you ask questions during class as wellthis will help you clarify things ahead of time that you may otherwise get confused by later. 8. Avoiding issues with difficult subjects Even the most gifted student will eventually face a subject that doesnt come naturally. But successful students dont give up the first time they experience difficulty. Claiming youre just bad at math wont get you an A, but admitting youre struggling, asking for help, and putting in the extra effort might. Identify the best form of assistance, whether that be online tutoring, practice tests, or stopping by to meet with your instructor outside class. 9. Not using active study strategies One of the most common ways students study is by re-reading notes and texts and highlighting them. Unfortunately, doing just this and nothing else isnt necessarily the best tactic. Consider supplementing this strategy with more active ones: quiz yourself on topics, rewrite your notes and reading assignments in your own words, write trial essays, and find other ways to actively engage with the material to help retain it better. 10. Poor environment When all else fails, try changing your surroundings. Make sure youre comfortable and have good lighting. Keep water and snacks nearby. Eliminate distractions like social media or non-school related to-dos. Sometimes the stress of physical discomfort or other responsibilities can interfere and make focus impossible. Finally, try to keep your desk clean and organized. Here are some things you might want to keep on your desk: highlighters post-its index cards extra pens and pencils all necessary folders and notebooks If youve recognized any of these poor study habits in yourself, do what you can to eliminate them and replace them with more effective alternatives. Learning how to learn is often half the battle in reaching your potential. Any topics you want to know more about? Let us know! You will also find ceramic works in various stages of completion and you will find studio space for r ent. You'll also find tiki mugs for sale.  Right now all of the spaces are taken but you can register for a studio rental on their waiting list. That just goes to show how renown FireWorks is.Throwing a pot â€" the phrase used to describe the process of centring clay on a potter’s wheel and working it until it becomes a bowl, a cup, a vase... whatever you intended to make.If you have never thrown a pot, starting out at FireWorks would be ideal because they offer a 6-week course on how to work with/on a pottery wheel.Naturally, your ceramics work will progress through all of the stages â€" from raw materials, through firing and glazing, ending up with a finished product that you will get to keep. The collection of lessons run £140 ( £120 if you’re a student) and each class has a maximum of five participants, meaning you’ll get plenty of personal instruction time. You may have to wait for the next cycle of lessons but it will be worth the wait: those ceramic artists really know t heir stuff!Unlike looking for pottery lessons in Birmingham, Glasgow is lousy with clay artists! Let’s look at the next studio on our list...The Glasgow Ceramic StudioThey call themselves a ceramic studio for a reason: it is home base for about 20 artists.Out of all of that creative fervour arises a schedule of classes and workshops targeted to the (somewhat) experienced potter as well as to those who have never thrown a pot. What we found particularly intriguing are their handbuilding courses.Handbuilding is a general term used to describe making pottery without using a pottery wheel. It harkens back to the time when there were no such things as pottery wheels; back then potters used various techniques such as coiling, pinching and slab building â€" working a smooth slab of clay either around a mould or shaped by hand. You could sign up for the 4-week beginners’ course that takes place on Monday evening ( £95 per person) or, if you have a bit of experience working with clay, opt for the 6-week course that takes place on Thursdays. The advantage to the Thursday Evening with Alison class is that your imagination gets to run free! You can work on your own projects if you so desire or take inspiration from others attending the session or Alison Gray herself.  This course costs £160 per person, all materials and firings included.Conversely, if you truly want to master the pottery wheel, you can take throwing courses at the Ceramic Studio as well. You may select their 4-week class which meets every Tuesday ( £110 per person) or sign up for a weekend taster which runs £160 per person. In both cases, the cost of materials and firings is included.Do you think Mancunians have such a great selection of classes to choose from? As part of learning how to work with clay, you can learn painting and drawing on ceramics Image by Rudy and Peter Skitterians from PixabayTaking Lessons at Stef Baxter PotteryRemember, in our intro we mentioned family pottery classes? The two facilities written up so far are professional ceramics studios with working artists. Welcoming children would pose several challenges, one of them being: what if the other artists don’t want children in their studio space?Stef Baxter runs a one-artist show and she likes the idea of kids creating art; for that reason, she welcomes children as young a five years old to her lessons. You could take lessons on Tuesdays from 6-8:30 in the evening but those are perhaps a bit late for the little ones. However, you could take her weekend classes, which start at 10 AM.What would you learn? For children, the focus is handmade pottery but adults could choose between wheel-thrown pottery or hand-built.If you opt for the Tuesday night course, those 6 weeks wil l cost you £180, materials included. If you prefer to go on a week-by-week basis, each lesson will cost £35.Discover where Loiners find ceramics classes in Leeds...Raku is a low-fire ceramic process with roots in traditional Japanese pottery techniques. It requires a special blend of clay and is fired at a lower temperature than stoneware or other earthenware. At Stef’s studio, you could learn to work with this more delicate material to make dainty ceramic creations that are perfect for gift-giving.Another great gift idea: vouchers for lessons at a ceramic studio!  With the holidays right around the corner, you might be scrambling for a meaningful gift for everyone on your list.Speaking realistically, if you're just starting your ceramic arts education, you probably will not have achieved mastery over the pottery wheel in time to make everyone a personalised coffee mug or unique piece of ceramic art. However, you could invite them to join you at the potter’s wheel...Instead of h unting for ‘pottery classes near me’, you can simply check out the list of studios at the bottom of this article... Clearly, all pottery is not the same; you can specify which type you'd try your hand at in your pottery workshop Image by Daniel Wanke from PixabayThe Scottish Potter’s AssociationWe would be remiss if we wrote about ceramics and pottery in Scotland without mentioning the Scottish Potter’s Association. They are not a studio or an art school. They are a group of dedicated local artists determined to uphold the traditions of Scottish pottery and help beginners learn new skills. If you are serious about pottery â€" even if you’re not very good at it yet, you are welcome to join them at any of their meetings and events or, better yet, sign up for classes through their website:If you live or work in the Govenhill Baths area, you might enjoy afternoon or evening classes at the local ceramics studio.
